How to Choose the Right Massage Therapist – Erica Whitman

How to Choose the Right Massage Therapist – Erica Whitman

The city of Fredericton is abounding with Registered Massage Therapists. We have two schools producing RMT’s in the Fredericton city alone. So how does one choose the right Massage Therapist? Where do you even begin to look?

Receiving Massage is a very personal and individual treatment. We all have graduated from great schools, but as in all trades and businesses… some people got it, and some don’t. Therefore choosing the right RMT for you, needs to be based off of a few things.

1- Experience

Although experience is not always a sign of a good therapist, it is definitely something to look for. RMT’s that have been working in the field have had the chance to work on a multitude of health issues and are better equipped to handle what may come their way in a treatment. A certain comfort level and confidence can also be the benefit of a well practiced RMT.

2- Technique

Every single Massage Therapist out there has her own unique style of techniques. The only way we know how to form our treatments over the years, is based off what we learn that we personally like. Therefore (personally), as a person that enjoys deep tissue work, with a nice relaxing scalp massage at the end to make me forget about the deep work. That is how I perform my own treatments. As in life, everyone is different. So find the massage therapist that uses the combination of techniques that best suit you.  (Also never be too shy to let your therapist know if you would prefer deeper or lighter pressure).

3- Personality

Yes this is actually very important to the outcome of your massage. Even if you are someone who likes to be quiet or sleep your hour away. When you are getting a massage, it is crucial for the most optimal results that you be relaxed (really that is the point). If you don’t relate well with your Therapist then you won’t relax! You need to be someone that makes you feel comfortable, comfortable enough to have a snooze or a lengthy conversation :).

So bear all these things in mind when out on the search for the optimal massage. Good old fashion word of mouth is always a great way to find someone to try, as you know that someone else liked them too!  So if you would like to book with one of our fabulous RMTs at Adica Massage Clinic, please give us a call! We offer a variety of different massages including: therapeutic massage, hot stone massage, deep tissue massage, 4 handed massage, pregnancy massage and even infant massage!
