Plantar Fasciitis – Nicole Gillett

Plantar Fasciitis – Nicole Gillett

With the ‘sandals’ and ‘heels’ season, we, as massage therapists, see a lot of foot problems from wearing flat sandals. Wearing sandals without any support can cause plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. The plantar fascia is the band on the bottom of the foot that runs from your heel to the toes. It can happen in one or both feet.

The most common sign of plantar fasciitis is pain in the bottom of the feet when taking you first steps of the day. If you have foot pain at night it could be another problem and you should consult a doctor to check it out.

Things that will help control the pain and relieve the tension from the band are rest, buying new shoes, stretches to the legs and feet, rolling a ball under your feet and adding a foot massage to your regular massage will also help. It can be a little painful but very beneficial.
