PTSD and Massage Therapy

PTSD and Massage Therapy

PTSD is the abbreviation for Post-Traumatic Stress Disease. This can be a result to anyone who has experienced a major traumatic moment or period in their lives.

It has been estimated that 70% of the adults in the US have experienced a trauma severe enough to result in PTSD. These events can be military combat, a terrorist attack, natural disasters, a violent crime, or horrific accident. Of those who have gone through such an event, about 8% of men, and 20% of women will go on to develop PTSD. PTSD is a complex disorder, with long ranging consequences. A person with PTSD is unable to “let go” of the traumatic episode they have witnessed or experienced, and they relive it again and again. Typical symptoms of a person with PTSD will include: (1)

•    Flashbacks and Nightmares

•    Difficulty sleeping

•    A feeling of detachment or distance

•    Chronic pain or fatigue

Although there are many ways to deal with PTSD, Massage Therapy is becoming a well-known addition to the treatment in rehabilitating people with this disease.  Massage Therapy is known to help improve blood circulation, relieve muscle tension, aide in sleep, and help a person to trust and connect with someone.

For these and many more reasons, we, as Therapists, are seeing a huge increase in clientele turning to us to help them through this hard time. We, at Adica Massage Clinic, have a big interest in helping people with PTSD, and want you to know we are committed to doing whatever we can to help you through your rehabilitation.  Whether you are looking for a quiet place to relax for an hour, or a sounding board; confidentiality is our key at Adica Massage Clinic and you can feel free to be yourself.
