Massage Therapy for Migraines – Erica Whitman

Massage Therapy for Migraines – Erica Whitman

Migraines are much worse than the common headache. Most migraine sufferers feel crippling, taking them out of commission for the day. Most people can’t function enough to stay at work, or at the task at hand, therefore ending up having to lie down and take pain killers.

It seems more and more people are presenting with Migraines. This may be due in part to the increased amount of time focusing on our devices, or even by the increased stress in our daily lives. Whatever the cause, finding a way to prevent, or at least decrease the frequency of this happening is a great benefit.

Have you ever noticed how people, who suffer from these or even headaches, always massage their own temples or shoulder? That is due to the fact that many times, migraines are triggered by tense muscles and stress. Therefore, if you can relax the muscles, you can relieve some of the pain. This is where Massage Therapy comes in. Massage is proven to work out muscle tension, release stress, reduce blood pressure, and provide a calming euphoria that helps people let go of the stress their body holds in.

Although not always a cure (as many things can lead to migraines), Massage Therapy has been shown to lessen the frequency of migraines, and improve your sleeping pattern as well.

Remember that pressure is always agreed upon, as sometimes if there is throbbing pain, we know that deep pressure can aggravate that. Always communicate with your therapist as to what pressure you are comfortable with during the massage. Massage Therapy for migraines is completely addressed uniquely according to the individual. We are here to help you and make you feel better.

Always make sure following a massage for migraines or headaches to always drink lots of water, as dehydration can make it worse, and it’s always good to flush out the system after a good massage with a lot of water.
