What is Whiplash? – Nicole Gillette

What is whiplash? Whiplash is an acceleration-deceleration injury to the head and neck. It is one of the most common injuries associated with car accidents, but it can also happen in sports and even when you fall and try to catch yourself.

You should go to the hospital immediately after an accident or hitting your head to get checked out regardless if you think you have whiplash or not. There are many different classifications of whiplash and they all have their own symptoms to worry about. Be sure the doctor thoroughly explains what you need to do and watch for especially in the first 24 hours.

Massage is a great treatment for helping you recover from a whiplash injury. We are all well trained in whiplash and know all the signs and symptoms of all the different grades of the injury so we can treat you accordingly.

Most commonly people with a whiplash injury want help with reducing the pain and increase the range of motion in their neck to what it used to be. It may not be the most relaxing massage you have had and can be a little uncomfortable at times but it will be worth it in the end.

Working on the neck muscles that had spasm from the accident are the ones that need to be relaxed and can be the uncomfortable part.

I have treated many clients with whiplash and have had amazing results between working with them, getting the to do exercises at home and usually you do some physio at the same time to help strengthen the weakened muscles.

Doing the exercises we give you for home is a very important part to put you on the right path for a good recovery.

At Adica Massage Clinic, we want to adapt to the needs of every client. We offer a variety of different types of massage including: Therapeutic massage, deep tissue massage, and even hot stone massage.
